Family Tracing and HouseHold Strengthening
Under our care, we have traced families and reintegrated their lost/wandering children back to them and in cases where poverty played a role, we help families strengthen their existing businesses or start new ones for them to make caring for those children easy and we have witnessed a drop in children returning to the streets.
There are cases as well of children in Juvenile Prisons whose mothers are not even aware that their relatives who took those children from them with the promise of sending them to school actually turned them into vendors in the cities instead of students as they promised.
Some of them get arrested for loitering and other minor offenses like being accused for minor things and since nobody has declared them missing or cared enough to find them, they are remanded in juvenile custodies in neighboring states.
For such children, we work with appropriate agencies to get them out and return them back to their families
Milestones
Child Abandonment
Let’s share a little story about little Miss Mmeyene who was abandoned to die by her mother. She dumped her on a sunday morning when everybody had gone to church at her grandmother’s place who at the time was blind in both eyes due to cataract.
At the time when we got the SOS she was already decaying in a pit toilet and her body was covered with feces and maggots but that did not stop us from rescuing her.
This was the situation of a child living with cerebral palsy. After taking her to the hospital and running several tests, scans and x-ray, we discovered she was dragged out during delivery and the trauma affected her neck bones and pelvis which affected her right hand and mobility. She is also a child living with speech impediments. Little wonders why her mother considered her a burden and would rather have her dead or living invisibly.
After giving her a thorough bath, here is Mmeyene
We had to feed her and prime her to be strong enough before we could take her to the hospital where she spent 11 months
Caring for her was a full time job as I became the father, mother, relatives and the face and arms she woke up to every day.
We took time to apply on her a specially made cream that helped rejuvenate her skin and we picked off the dead skin each morning after bathing her.
Our efforts was not in vain as you can see her after 7 months in the hospital as a happy girl and back to life.
She has been one of the reasons why we are still reaching out to other children who need to be cared for and brought back to health through our little efforts and contributions to making our world a better place for our children.
Today, Mmeyene is healthy and lives with her grandmother in a 1bedroom flat fully paid for and their feeding is covered. I should also add here that we did a free cataract surgery on her grandmother which was successful and she can now see all thanks to the kindness of those who gave when the need arose.
This passion is the reason why we have renewed our registration with the government and had our licence to open a home called MY BROTHER’S PLACE for all the children who need a home so they could grow and become a part of changing our world.
I believe they will be a part of changing our world because I was an abandoned child at age 7, I went through sexual and physical abuse from age 8 to 12 and ended up as a street child after my mother had depression induced mental health issues and had to be taken to the village.
I lived on and off the streets until 16yrs of age when a NYSC Corper took me off the streets and sent be back to school becoming a father to me.
We still maintain a healthy father/son relation till date and he has been so proud to see the seed he sowed in 1996 growing to rescue other children.
I have no doubt your partnership is for a noble course that will speak in years to come.
How else do we live our lives if not by raising others?
Your token will help us save more lives like Mmeyene and Mine as we open MY BROTHER’S PLACE.
